Alassane Plea signs for Borussia Monchengladbach

Gladbach are looking to qualify for Europe this season

Borussia Monchengladbach have recently signed OGC Nice striker Alassane Plea for 23 million euros(a club record fee),who has penned down a 5 year deal.Plea was chased by epl teams like Tottenham,Leicester city and West Ham.But it has come as a surprise as he is now at Gladbach
Plea palyed 34 matches for Nice in Ligue1 scoring 16 goals and setting up 5.
He came in his best form at the end of the season where he scored 10 goals and assisted another 2 in 10 games and winnin 3 MOTMs.It also included a 4 goal haul against Guingamp's 2-5 rout.

 Though a great player,Plea has never played outside his home  country France due to his  fitness issues.But now 25,he is reaching his prime age and seems to have got better of the injuries last season.A former Lyon academy graduate, he’s very slowly blossomed into a good striker that can both play as an inside forward on the left or as part of a two-man strikeforce 

Strengths

Positional Versatility

One thing that stands with Alassane Plea out is his comfort in playing different areas. He’s just as comfortable playing in a congested area in a half space as he is spreading himself wide and playing as a more traditional winger touching the sidelines.
  
Dribbling

Plea is very good in 1v1 situations and has the skills and ability to beat a defender.Nice this season played something that resembled a 4-3-1-2/4-3-3. The width provided comes from either the full backs or one of the front three. Plea was probably the player most comfortable in a very wide position because it allowed him to gather a head of steam and try to beat opponents in 1v1’s, even though it didn’t end in shot opportunities all the time.

Long shots
Plea can score from long shots which is a plus point when facing compact defences.Three out of 16 goals od Plea have from outside the box.

Plea had a 80% pass accuracy this season averaging 1 long ball and key passes per game and completing an average of 30 passes per game

Weaknesses
Like all attcaking players,Pleas defense is quite weak.Two major weaknesses are crossing and aerial duels which could prove a problem when playing against stronger possesion minded teams like Bayern,Dortmund.

Conclusion
Though Plea has some weaknesses but they are well covered by his attacking talent and he could prove a bargain if Gladbach qualifiy for Champions League this season which the agonisingly missed out last season despite having a great first half of the season.If Plea and Thorgan Hazard both perform their best this season,Gladbach is a favourite contender for european spot in Bundesliga this season
